The house
Rochas was founded in 1925 in Paris (France) by the couturier Marcel Rochas. The house entered fine fragrance in the 1930s and produced Femme (1944), one of the canonical chypre-oriental compositions of the postwar French perfumery era, composed by Edmond Roudnitska. The house has passed through several ownership changes, including a period under Procter & Gamble and later Interparfums.
Edmond Roudnitska's Femme (1944) was built around a plum aldehyde base with cumin and rose, representing one of the most studied examples of Roudnitska's early career. The fragrance has been reformulated, but the original construction remains a reference in academic and enthusiast discussions of classical French perfumery.
On Osmetheca, Rochas is represented by one fragrance: Femme (1944), composed by Edmond Roudnitska, a plum aldehyde chypre oriental that stands as one of the defining compositions of mid-century French feminine perfumery.
