History of the house

Marc-Antoine Barrois founded his couture house in Paris in 2009, specialising in bespoke menswear cut for a small, demanding clientele. The house was a tailoring atelier first, and perfumery grew out of that world rather than preceding it: the couturier wanted a scent that would extend the precision and material sensibility of his clothes.

The perfumery branch launched in 2016 with B683, composed by the Givaudan perfumer Quentin Bisch and released on 1 October. A suede leather built around ambergris, cardamom and woods, B683 set the template for the house: a single perfume conceived as a complete statement, named in a private code, and developed through a close back-and-forth between couturier and nose. Since then, every Marc-Antoine Barrois perfume has been signed by Bisch.

In 2019 the house released Ganymede, named after a moon of Jupiter. Its mineral, suede and saffron signature, luminous and hard to place, made it a modern niche landmark and brought the perfumery side international visibility well beyond the couture clientele. A more concentrated Ganymede Extrait followed in 2023.

The collection then grew slowly and deliberately, with Encelade in 2022, Tilia in 2024 and Aldebaran in 2025, several of them named after celestial bodies. The house has kept its two activities side by side, couture and perfume, both directed by Marc-Antoine Barrois and distributed through a selective international network.

Notable perfumes

The Marc-Antoine Barrois perfumery collection is small and tightly curated, and every title is composed by Quentin Bisch. The references below are the core of the line, drawn from the official site and specialist coverage.

Olfactive signature

The house signature comes from the meeting of two disciplines: couture and perfumery. The collection is built on a couturier's instinct for material and proportion, and on Quentin Bisch's ability to render that instinct as scent. The result is a small body of work where suede leather and a cool, mineral luminosity recur as the defining textures, from B683 to Ganymede.

The perfumes share a sense of restraint and singularity. Each is conceived as a finished object rather than a flanker-friendly base, and the house resists rapid catalogue expansion. The celestial naming, from Ganymede to Encelade and Aldebaran, gives the perfumery line a quiet narrative thread without turning into a literal theme.

Because a single perfumer composes the whole line in dialogue with a single director, the voice is exceptionally consistent. This author logic, closer to a couture atelier than to a conventional fragrance brand, is what places Marc-Antoine Barrois firmly within niche perfumery despite its couture origins.

A couture atelier that approached perfume the way it approached a bespoke garment: one piece at a time, cut to fit.

The house today

Marc-Antoine Barrois remains an independent French house, directed by the couturier and combining bespoke menswear with its niche perfumery line. Quentin Bisch continues to compose every new perfume, preserving the unified voice that has defined the house since 2016. The line still grows slowly, by single, carefully spaced releases rather than seasonal launches.

On the perfumery side, the house is now best known internationally for Ganymede, whose mineral suede signature has become a reference point and an inspiration for other niche compositions. The detailed creative profile of the house's nose is covered separately on Osmetheca in the dedicated perfumer fact sheet for Marc-Antoine Barrois and in the fact sheet for Quentin Bisch.
