The signature

A lifelong reader, a trained professional

Sabrina Carlier has loved perfumery since childhood. For about a decade now, niche perfumery has held her attention in particular: hours spent at specialty boutiques, close reading of critics, sustained contact with independent houses, and patient observation of schools and trends. That practice slowly built an expert eye.

Her initial training lies elsewhere. A lawyer and manager by background, holding a Master's in business law and a Master's in management, she found her true field of expertise in perfumery.

Niche is her real passion. What pulls her toward it: the creativity of perfumers, the craft of small houses, the singularity of each composition. That patient curiosity, fed by practice and reading, is what Osmetheca runs on, entry after entry.

Olfactory affinities

Her accords

She reads perfume as an art of accord, to be tuned to the season, the temperature, the occasion, sometimes even the mood of the day. In winter, she turns to amber orientals, the ones where labdanum and Siam benzoin hold the base, drawn out by a smoky vanilla and occasionally lifted by a trace of olibanum incense. In summer, she comes back to orange blossom in every form, from a bright neroli to fuller white-flower compositions.

Those personal affinities do not set the angle of the Encyclopedia, Glossary, Perfumers, Houses, or Perfumes entries, which aim for objectivity. They come out more freely in the Journal, where the subjective voice is openly assumed.

Editorial ambition

One idea, three ambitions

The idea behind Osmetheca holds together in three complementary ambitions: gather, answer, reveal.

Gather, in one single place, the raw materials, the houses, the perfumers, and the compositions of niche perfumery.

Answer each precise question with a precise, accessible, and verified reply.

Reveal independent houses, original creators, and rare materials that the dominant retail circuits rarely make visible.
