How Osmetheca uses AI

Who writes, what artificial intelligence does, and what it does not do.

In short

The short answer

Osmetheca is written by people. Sabrina Carlier, founder and publication director, signs the content. Artificial intelligence helps her find information, lay out pages, draft tables and apply corrections in bulk. It does not write in her place, and it replaces neither research nor verification.

AI is there to work faster. The writing belongs to a human being. Without that, a signed encyclopedia would make no sense.

Who writes

Human writing

Sabrina Carlier signs Osmetheca’s content and sets its editorial direction. Trained in law and management, she has followed niche perfumery for about a decade. Her page.

Viviane Eeman is a Belgian journalist with more than thirty years in magazine journalism. As editor-in-chief, she safeguards the editorial consistency of the site and reviews Journal articles before publication. Her page.

Published interviews are conducted by people. Sabrina Carlier interviewed Linda Pilkington, founder of Ormonde Jayne, by video call on 1 September 2026 (the interview). Viviane Eeman met Maxence Nourric in Guerlain’s private salon on 18 August 2026 (the interview).

What AI does

Four uses, one purpose

Artificial intelligence helps with four tasks. All four serve the same purpose: working faster.

Finding information

AI helps locate information and leads to sources. It cannot reach every web page or every book. Sabrina Carlier completes the research herself.

Laying out pages

AI helps format pages to the site’s shared template, in both languages.

Drafting tables

AI helps draft the tables in each entry. The data they hold goes through the same verification as the rest of the text.

Bulk corrections

When a fact is corrected, AI helps apply the same correction to every page that mentions it. Typographic rules are applied the same way.

What it does not do

What AI does not do

It does not write in the author’s place. A human has to write, or the project makes no sense.

It is not a source. Information found with its help is published only once it has been checked against a named source, listed at the foot of the page.

It does not replace research. What AI cannot reach, whether web pages or books, Sabrina Carlier looks for herself.

It does not replace review. Journal articles are reviewed by the editor-in-chief before publication.

The site’s images are neither generated nor retouched with AI.

Verification

The same rules for everything

Whatever AI helps to find follows the same method as the rest of the site.

Three source ranks

Rank 1: the house, the perfumer, or an official body. Rank 2: dated and signed press. Rank 3: Fragrantica, Parfumo, Wikipedia and blogs. Retailers and decanters are never a source.

The source of each fact appears at the foot of the page, with its title, publisher, date and address.

Verification before publication

Founding dates, perfumer names, launch years, olfactory classifications, IFRA restrictions and CITES status are all checked against a source. No entry is published with a known critical error.

Review by the editor-in-chief

Viviane Eeman reviews Journal articles before publication. Those articles carry a footer noting that review.

Published corrections

A reported error is checked against three independent sources, with primary sources first. The correction is published on the entry, with its new modification date. The details are in the methodology.
