History of the house
Matière Première was born from a return to the source. Aurélien Guichard, a Grasse perfumer and son of the perfumer Jean Guichard, founded the house in 2019 with Cédric Meiffret and Caïus Von Knorring.
The trigger was agricultural: watching the rose bushes grow on the family land in Grasse, Aurélien Guichard conceived a house that runs from field to bottle. The house grows roses, tuberoses and lavandin organically on more than six hectares around Grasse, which gives it control over part of its materials; the rest comes from chosen sources elsewhere, such as the Burgundy blackcurrant and the Bangladeshi oud in Black Currant Extrait.
Its founding principle is the overdose of a central ingredient: each perfume is built around a single natural material, used at its highest possible dosage, whose facets are revealed without drowning it. Rose, tuberose, vanilla, neroli, then blackcurrant with Black Currant Extrait in 2026.
In June 2024, Kering Beauté took a minority stake in the company, with the three founders remaining majority shareholders at the time. The head office is in Paris, at 306 rue Saint-Honoré, where the house opened its first boutique in June 2025; beyond it, the house is sold through a network of specialist retailers and claims rare traceability of its raw materials, from field to bottle.
