Quick answers
History of the house
Matière Première was born from a return to the source. Aurélien Guichard, a Grasse native from seven generations of perfumers and son of perfumer Jean Guichard, signed some hundred creations at Givaudan, Firmenich and Takasago before founding his house in 2019, with Cédric Meifret and Caius von Knorring.
The trigger was agricultural: watching the rose bushes grow on the family land in Grasse, Aurélien Guichard conceived a house that runs from field to bottle. The house grows its roses and tuberoses organically, on one of the largest plantations in the region, and so controls the sourcing of its materials.
Its founding principle is the overdose of a central ingredient: each perfume is built around a single natural material, used at its highest possible dosage, whose facets are revealed without drowning it. Rose, tuberose, vanilla, neroli, then blackcurrant with Black Currant Extrait in 2026, an exclusive created for Harrods.
The house is sold through a network of selective niche perfumeries and claims rare traceability of its raw materials, from the Grasse field to the bottle.

Olfactory signature
The signature of Matière Première lies in a method: one central ingredient, natural, overdosed, whose facets the perfume reveals rather than diluting it into an accord. The house favors materials it can source and often grow itself in Grasse.
The result is legible, centered perfumes, where the star material (rose, tuberose, blackcurrant) is recognizable at once, carried to a rare intensity. That clarity, paired with a demand for traceability, sets the house apart in contemporary niche perfumery.
Every perfume is built around a single central natural ingredient, used at the highest dosage, whose facets are revealed without ever drowning it.
