Image usage policy

Origin, ownership and use of images published on Osmetheca

General framework

Osmetheca is an editorial reference publication devoted to niche perfumery. Images published on the site come from three main sources, each governed by a distinct ownership and use regime. This page clarifies where images originate, who owns them, and under what conditions a third party may request their reuse.

Consulting the images on osmetheca.be is free and open to all. No cookies, no user accounts, no commercial transactions are required. However, reproducing, copying or republishing images outside osmetheca.be is subject to the rules described below.

Official images provided by partner houses

The majority of images published on Osmetheca (flacon photography, perfumer portraits, house logos, packshots) are official photographs transmitted directly by the niche perfume houses covered on the site.

These images remain the exclusive property of the house that created and transmitted them. They are published on Osmetheca under an editorial permission granted by the house, specifically for the encyclopedic entry in question. This permission is limited to Osmetheca and does not extend to third-party reuse.

Houses that have provided official images to Osmetheca to date: Pierre Guillaume Paris, Maria Candida Gentile, Hiram Green, Aedes de Venustas, Nasomatto, Parfum d'Empire, Guerlain, Mizensir, Ormonde Jayne, Filippo Sorcinelli.

Any request to reuse an image from a partner house must be addressed directly to the owning house. Osmetheca can facilitate the introduction on simple request to sabrina.carlier@osmetheca.be.

Osmetheca logo and editorial graphic assets

The Osmetheca logo and editorial graphic assets specific to the site (banner, favicon, illustrations from in-house guides and articles) are the property of Osmetheca, published by Imperium SA.

These assets are protected under Belgian and European copyright law. Any reproduction, adaptation or distribution, in full or in part, outside a simple private consulting use, requires prior written permission. Requests for reuse, including for press coverage, educational use or a third-party article, must be sent to sabrina.carlier@osmetheca.be with a precise description of the context and the intended use.

Royalty-free illustration images

Certain editorial illustration images used to accompany feature articles, guides or olfactory ambiances come from the Unsplash image bank (unsplash.com).

These images are used under the Unsplash License, which allows free use, including commercial use, without attribution obligation. Osmetheca nonetheless credits, wherever practical, the Unsplash source and the photographer's name when available, out of respect for contributors' work.

Visitors to Osmetheca who wish to reuse an Unsplash illustration image are invited to consult Unsplash directly to download the original version and verify the terms of use: unsplash.com/license.

Usage policy for visitors

Consulting the images on osmetheca.be, taking screenshots for private use (reading, personal note-taking) and occasionally sharing a link to a page on the site are free and allowed without any prior formality.

Republishing an image on another website, blog, article, social media post or any public distribution medium requires prior permission. This rule applies to all images regardless of their origin (partner houses, Osmetheca, Unsplash).

Commercial use of an image published on Osmetheca (resale, advertising, packaging, derivative product) is strictly subject to written permission from the rightsholder for the image concerned.

Reuse permission request

Any permission request must be sent by email to sabrina.carlier@osmetheca.be with the following information:

Osmetheca answers admissible requests within fifteen days. Requests concerning official images from partner houses are forwarded to the owning house for arbitration.

Removal or contestation

If you are the legitimate rightsholder of an image published on Osmetheca and believe its publication was made without authorization, or if you wish its removal for any other legitimate reason, you may send a reasoned request to sabrina.carlier@osmetheca.be.

After verification of the legitimacy of the request, effective removal of the image concerned is carried out within forty-eight business hours. Osmetheca commits to answering any good-faith removal request without requiring disproportionate justification.
