History
The house numbers its compositions by theme, and theme 04 is musk. It opened in 2005 with Musc Maori, a gourmand musk wrapped in chocolate and vanilla. In 2016 Pierre Guillaume reopened it within his Collection Rework, where he revisits his own back catalogue: he took the “Milk of Musk” accord at the heart of Musc Maori and lifted off the chocolate coating, leaving a blend of seven musks that read like warm, bare skin.
The title is a statement of intent: musk, skin, the plain act of wearing scent. This musk is neither the animalic base of the classics nor the laundered cleanliness of modern white musks. It speaks of intimacy, of the fragile sensory envelope that holds our humanity. Pierre Guillaume designed it as a skin elixir to wear alone or under another fragrance, a veil you can personalise.
It arrived at the height of the “skin scent” vogue, fragrances that aim less to project than to extend the smell of skin, your skin but better. It is the opposite of the showy musk Maurice Roucel had made famous with Musc Ravageur in 2000, ambered and carnal: here Pierre Guillaume aims for transparency, a musk built almost entirely from synthetic materials, creamy and soft, that melts into the wearer rather than announcing itself.
The niche press welcomed that accuracy. ÇaFleureBon framed it as a love letter to skin, and several reviewers noted how close it stays, a scent so near the body that it can take a few wears to read in full. That is the price of the effect: a second skin rather than a mask.
Pierre Guillaume later drew a limited extrait from the idea, “Musc Préliminaire”, a re-concentrated, more direct reading. The 04.1 eau de parfum remains the emblem, the version that put a skin musk at the centre of the catalogue.

Olfactory profile
The profile fits in a sentence: it is the smell of skin, made desirable. There is no spectacular arc, no dramatic turn. The interest lies in the accuracy of the musk accord, neither sweet nor soapy, which seems to come off the wearer rather than the bottle.
Rosemary and ylang lend an almost milky clarity up top; tonka and amber settle into a tepid sweetness; cedar holds the base with a dry stroke that keeps the whole from turning gourmand. The result is quiet, clean in the noble sense, and long lasting.
