History and inspiration
Babylonia belongs to La Route de la Soie, the Silk Road collection that Ormonde Jayne launched in October 2020 to celebrate two decades of the house. It was added to the line in 2022 and takes its name and mood from Babylon, the storied city of the ancient world, evoked here through softness and warmth rather than literal references.
The composition opens on a fruity, lightly spiced flourish of blackcurrant, bergamot, davana and pink pepper, then settles into a powdery floral heart of iris butter, violet, bluebell and orange blossom. The base is where Babylonia makes its case, a gourmand-leaning blend of vanilla absolute, praline, Siam benzoin and white musk that stays plush and powdery rather than dense.

The signature of Babylonia is its powder. The iris and violet give it a cosmetic, faintly retro softness, while the praline and vanilla absolute add a sweet, edible warmth that never tips into syrup. White musk keeps the whole composition clean and enveloping.
On skin it stays close and soft, a comfortable second-skin warmth rather than a projecting statement. The fruity opening fades quickly into the powdery heart, and the drydown is long, sweet and gently resinous.
