Quick answers
History
Amouage composed this fragrance in 2025 for the Royal Opera House Muscat and released it in Oman as Sindbad. That name was not available outside Oman for rights reasons, so the house renamed it Elsewhere for international distribution. Renaud Salmon, creative director since 2020, states that the formula is unchanged. An institutional Omani commission moving intact into a worldwide catalog is an unusual sequence, and it is the main thing to know about this release.
The Essences was introduced as a counterweight to the house's dense orientals, an exercise in restraint built on a small number of lead materials. Elsewhere opens the second trilogy and reverses that premise. The published pyramid names nineteen materials, nine of them in the top alone. The word essence has shifted meaning inside the collection: here it points to concentration, not to economy of means.
The production method is what Elsewhere genuinely adds. The house describes a double infusion: six months over sandalwood chips, then six months in oak barrels from the Allary cooperage, followed by two weeks of maceration. That is roughly a year of rest before bottling, for a parfum essence dosed at 30 percent in 100 ml. Amouage never dates its launches on its own site. The fragrance appeared in Amouage stores and on the house's own online store on 23 June 2026; specialist press places the rollout to international retailers in late July 2026.
Olfactory pyramid
For Elsewhere the house publishes a conventional three tier pyramid on its product page, itemized down to nineteen named materials.
Nine materials on top against three at the heart: the fragrance opens wide, narrows onto a tea, coffee and davana axis, then settles into seven base materials, none of them floral.
Olfactory profile
The opening is a fruit bowl. Honey, mango, pomegranate and apricot form a thick fruited mass that mandarin and grapefruit cut without truly lightening, and that ginger, cardamom and pink pepper prick from three directions. At 30 percent, this does not behave like the top of an eau de parfum. It does not evaporate, it settles.
The heart carries the idea. Black tea supplies tannin, the astringent dryness of steeped leaf; cappuccino supplies roast and a milky texture. Davana sits between them as the fruity, winey hinge that keeps a coffee accord from collapsing into dessert. The balance of bitterness against roundness gives the fragrance its character, more than the abundance of the top does.
The base states the woody intention. Tonka bean and vanilla hold the sweetness, but cypriol, vetiver and patchouli contradict it with earth and smoke, cedar adds dryness and labdanum adds resin. The announced infusion over sandalwood and then in oak is audible here: the drydown has the grain of macerated wood, almost spirituous, which is not the usual gourmand register.

When and where to wear
Elsewhere is a cold weather, late day fragrance. The density of the formula and the 30 percent dosage call for restraint: overdosed, the coffee and ripe fruit accord takes over an enclosed room.
