History

The interesting thing about Future Memories is where it sits in the catalog. Byredo made its name on contemporary woody florals and on ambers built from modern captives, not on iris. An orris butter set between galbanum and aldehydes belongs to an older grammar, that of the powdery florals of the twentieth century, and the house had not written in it before.

The release date is 30 July 2026, carried by an official campaign published on the house site. The trade press credits the formula to Quentin Bisch on converging but uniformly secondary sources: Byredo's own pages resist automated reading, so the attribution could not be checked at the source.

Founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Ben Gorham and now under Puig control, Byredo commissions its formulas from outside perfumers and does not consistently place their names in front of the product. The base of Future Memories, white vanilla, an ambery molecule and musks, brings the whole thing back to the house's own contemporary vocabulary.

The reading is clear: a green and cold opening, a fatty resinous heart, a pale base that extends without weight.

Olfactory profile

Galbanum is among the sharpest materials on the palette: green, bitter, almost cutting. Paired with aldehydes it produces the cold soapy opening that mid century perfumery codified and that few contemporary houses still attempt. Blackcurrant, tart and faintly sulfurous, supplies the only fruit in the reported formula.

Orris butter is the center. It is a fatty, rooty material, powdery without being sweet, and it gives a formula its texture more than its smell. Labdanum warms it from underneath, orange blossom lights it from the side, and the iris holds the middle without ever standing alone in front.

The base chooses clarity. White vanilla lacks the weight of a bourbon vanilla, Ambrofix contributes a dry and highly diffusive amber with no animal material involved, and the musks close on a clean skin effect. The contrast with the opening galbanum is sharp, and that contrast is where the interest of the fragrance lies.
