History
Guidance launched in 2023 at Amouage, the Omani house founded in 1983. The house calls it one of its most admired and feted creations.
Quentin Bisch composed it under Renaud Salmon, Amouage’s chief creative officer. The scent reworks the Amouage triad of rose, frankincense and ambergris while staying true to the house identity.
In 2024 the Fragrance Foundation France named it best niche fragrance in the category for independent brands established for more than five years. The ceremony took place on 12 June 2024 at the Pavillon Gabriel in Paris (France).
Amouage also lists two other 2024 awards: Best Perfume in High Luxury at the Belgian Beauty Awards, and Best Breakthrough Product (Fragrance) at the BeautyMatter NEXT Awards in the United States.
A year after launch, Salmon and Bisch followed up with Guidance 46, an extrait. It adds materials to the original formula without removing any. The Guidance name now covers a collection that includes body and hair products.

Rose, frankincense and ambergris, the three materials of the claimed triad, are spread across all three tiers.
Scent profile
Guidance’s scent profile takes the long-standing Amouage triad of rose, frankincense and ambergris and shifts it. Pear and hazelnut give the opening a fruity, toasted roundness, unusual for the house.
The heart stays floral and spicy: saffron, rose, jasmine sambac and osmanthus. The amber base joins cistus, sandalwood, Akigalawood, ambergris and vanilla. Premium Beauty News described it in 2024 as a scent with a strong trail.

Amouage gives no wearing advice. Given the trail the press credits it with, and its amber base, a light hand works best: one or two sprays.
