Quick answers
History
Hyde is the leather of Hiram Green, released in 2018 and composed, like the whole collection, entirely from natural materials, by hand in the studio in Gouda, the Netherlands. The house presents it as a sensual, captivating leather, both seductive and demanding, made for men and women alike, by day and by night.
The perfume opens on bright lemon and bergamot that immediately collide with two powerful materials : birch tar, dry and sharp, drawn from the dry distillation of the bark and carrying a burnt-wood character, and cassie, an opulent flower that is at once green, spicy and honeyed. Together these two materials build a vibrant, deep leather note. That heart is then wrapped in a warm base of smoky labdanum and malted vanilla, which slowly melts into an earthy oakmoss.
In 2019, Hyde won an Art and Olfaction Award in the Artisan category, an international distinction that honors independent perfumers and confirms the house’s command of all-natural perfumery. That recognition cemented Hiram Green’s reputation as one of the few perfumers able to compose a great leather without reaching for synthetic molecules, at the slow pace imposed by natural materials and small-batch production.
Olfactory pyramid
The house gives a palette of materials rather than a formal pyramid. The layering below follows the progression described in the press kit and on the official site, from the citrus brightness to the leather accord and the resinous base.
The movement runs from citrus brightness to a deep, smoky leather. Birch tar and cassie form the leather heart, while labdanum, balsamic and salty like skin, anchors the accord ; malted vanilla and oakmoss close the composition on an earthy warmth.
Olfactory profile
The olfactory profile of Hyde is a deep, intense leather reminiscent of burnt wood. It is a perfume of character, built on contrast : the citrus freshness of the opening is quickly seized by birch tar and its dry smoke, then softened by the honeyed facet of cassie. The natural materials give it a thick, living texture that is at once seductive and demanding.
The distinctive signature lies in the recognition that crowned it : in 2019, Hyde won an Art and Olfaction Award in the Artisan category, a prize that honors independent perfumers. That award confirmed that a great leather could be built from natural materials alone, losing none of its depth or intensity.
A deep and intense leather fragrance reminiscent of burnt wood.
When and where to wear
Hyde is a leather of temperament, for those who love dry smoke and frank materials. Its depth makes it a day or night perfume, seductive yet demanding, that carries as well on bare skin as under a coat.
