History
extrait de musique is the collection Filippo Sorcinelli devotes to organ music. An initial formulation had translated the stops of the great organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral into olfactory matter; in 2026, presented at the Esxence show in Milan, the collection is reborn in seven new fragrances. Each chapter consecrates a moment that the organ transforms, and that a perfume can preserve.
ORGAN #4 is its fourth movement. Before a solemn celebration, the altar turns into a place of focused activity. The reliquaries are arranged with precision, lifted, examined against the light; the cloth glides over the silver and gold surfaces with a slow, measured movement that restores the material to its luminous fullness. Light refracts upon the metals, vibrates across the engravings, igniting warm reflections that converse with the flame of the candles.
The air becomes imbued with a subtle scent, metallic and faintly sweet, blending with the memory of incense and the softness of wax. One perceives the care devoted to the sacred object, the desire to present it with dignity and splendor. The organ, in its turn, sustains this concentration with a restrained, limpid sound; the notes unfold with clarity, as if marking the rhythm of the polishing, and envelop the altar in a controlled vibration that amplifies the brilliance of the metals.
The perfume interprets that respect and veneration through a luminous, radiant accord, in which a metallic tension softens into a balsamic, ambery warmth recalling the glow of candles and the depth of the nave. Like the six other chapters, ORGAN #4 is sealed with a melted vinyl stopper, an echo of the 33 rpm records on which the child discovered the organ.
Harmonic evolution
Filippo Sorcinelli is an organist; he does not conceive his perfumes as a pyramid of volatility but as a score. ORGAN #4 is therefore stated in three movements, subject, counter-subject and tail, as the house publishes them.
Latex, amber woods and oakwood lay down a warm, luminous matter, the gleam of polished metal transposed into an accord. Peony and iris soften that light with a floral, powdery veil, while a brass accord brings the metallic tension of the reliquary under the cloth. Mandarin, cardamom and black pepper close the perfume on a spiced warmth, the flame of the candles near the gold.
Olfactory profile
ORGAN #4 is a luminous ambery woody, crossed by a metallic gleam. From the opening, amber woods and oakwood set a radiant warmth that latex makes supple and faintly plush. You are in the instant of the polishing: something shines without dazzling, a light laid upon matter.
The counter-subject gives the perfume its signature. Peony and iris lay a floral, powdery, almost waxy veil, while a brass accord introduces a cold metallic tension, the smell of silver and gold being rubbed. That contrast between ambery warmth and the cold of the metal is the heart of the perfume, the exact olfactory equivalent of a reflection.
The tail warms the whole. Mandarin brings a soft citrus, while cardamom and black pepper add a bright, warm spice, like the flame of the candles near the metals. Longevity is that of an extrait, present and luminous; the sillage, ambery and radiant, leaves a dignified trace, in keeping with an object presented with veneration.
“A metallic tension softens into a balsamic, ambery warmth, recalling the glow of the candles and the depth of the nave.”Filippo Sorcinelli, on ORGAN #4
Key characteristics
When and where to wear
ORGAN #4 is an amber for the shoulder seasons and polished moments. Its warm light blooms in autumn and spring, in daylight as much as evening, on occasions where you want to wear something radiant. Its ambery base also lets it hold winter; in high summer, the amber woods are best dosed with measure.
