History
Perfect Oud launched in 2016 as an Eau de Parfum in the Mizensir line, the perfume range that the Geneva (Switzerland) house added to its candle catalogue in 2015. This page documents only the 2016 Eau de Parfum in its original formulation. Mizensir released a separate Perfect Oud extrait concentration in 2024: that newer composition is a different reference and is not covered here.
The brief reads in the name and in the building. Alberto Morillas declined natural agarwood essence and chose to write an olfactive memory of oud, with a rare cedar holding the lead role at the heart, supported by iris, juniper, Bulgarian rose, bergamot and coriander. The idea is to suggest the precious wood through combination rather than through imitation of the agarwood material itself.
The choice places Perfect Oud in a distinct family within the Mizensir lineup. Ideal Oud (2016), Tender Oud (2017) and Golden Oud (2020) all build around natural agarwood, each variation polishing it differently. Perfect Oud goes the opposite way: an idea of oud rather than the matter, a cedar-iris reading where the precious wood is never literally named at the bench.
The release lands in the slipstream of the rose-oud wave shaping niche perfumery since Tom Ford's Oud Wood (2007) and Montale's Black Aoud (2006). The oud-impression path is less documented than the natural agarwood route, but it opens a clearer, more daylight reading, in which cedar steps out of its usual supporting role and becomes the subject itself.
Morillas practices this double work with rare consistency. Author of Acqua di Gio for Giorgio Armani (1996) and CK One for Calvin Klein (1994) at Firmenich, he writes parallel author compositions at Mizensir, free from retail brief constraints. Perfect Oud carries that freedom: no agarwood, cedar in full presence, an iris-rose accord that closes the reading without weight.
The 2016 Eau de Parfum Perfect Oud remains in the Mizensir catalogue in 2026, in its original 100 ml bottle.
Olfactive pyramid
Perfect Oud (2016 Eau de Parfum) organizes a rose-bergamot-coriander opening, a heart where cedar plays the oud role by impression and iris polishes the wood, and a base of cedar and juniper that carries the woody reading. No natural agarwood is used: the heart note is a reconstructed agarwood accord built from other materials.
Evolution on skin keeps the rose-bergamot opening readable for fifteen to thirty minutes, then the cedar-iris heart takes over. The cedar-juniper base carries the composition for six to eight hours on skin, with extended presence on textile into the next day.
Olfactive profile
The olfactive profile of Perfect Oud rests on the rose-bergamot opening, the cedar-iris heart that takes over once the top settles, and the cedar-juniper drydown that holds the reading. The attack is dressed-up and cool, with a dry coriander accent. The heart arrives quietly, and the reconstructed agarwood note shows up as a diffuse presence rather than a solo. The base keeps the clear woody profile, with no resinous weight and no animal leather edge.
The cedar-led reading is the distinctive angle. Where most oud compositions in niche perfumery rest on natural agarwood placed in full presence, Perfect Oud goes the other way and substitutes the material with a constructed memory. The result reads closer to contemporary cedar-iris compositions than to an Arabian woody. Iris softens the wood, juniper carries a dry berry, and rose with bergamot opens onto a cool light.
Perfect Oud is the oud I wanted to write without the material. A rare cedar, an iris, a touch of dry berry, and the memory of the precious wood appears by itself.
