History

Scusami belongs to UNUM, Filippo Sorcinelli's first olfactory line, born in 2013 out of his atelier of sacred vestments. Its title is a spoken phrase: Scusami, “forgive me.” The perfume grew from the idea of forgiveness, that difficult gesture one sometimes no longer dares to make, pursued by remorse and by the relentlessness of fate.

The house reads it dark, then luminous. Unexpected wounds mark the silence; the inhumanity of life leads to dryness, to no longer recognizing one's faults, to withering. Yet only that lived pain, full of signs, scars and sculpts memory; only the scratches of anguish shape the choice to ask for forgiveness.

From that pain comes a movement of color. One weeps for a courage that stirs the hues of change, offering suffered flowers and a breath upon the petals. That is why Sorcinelli speaks of a large bouquet: a bouquet that reconstructs memory and frees us from a past that refuses to leave, a fertile forgetting rather than an erasure.

Released in 2020, Scusami ranks among the most inhabited florals of the collection. Beneath the brightness of the flowers runs an ambery, woody base that gives the bouquet its gravity; enthusiasts file it among the fruity floral ambers, where softness never comes without a shadow.

Harmonic evolution

Filippo Sorcinelli is an organist; he does not conceive his perfumes as a pyramid of volatility but as a score. Scusami is therefore stated in three movements, subject, counter-subject and tail, as the house publishes them under the heading of harmonic evolution.

The reading is inverted here: the subject is an ambery, woody, musky base that gives the perfume its gravity and hold; the counter-subject unfurls the large bouquet, rose, ylang-ylang, freesia and lily of the valley, freshened by cassis; the fruity, citrus tail, mirabelle plum, lemon and grapefruit softened by heliotrope, brings the brightness that lets forgiveness sing.

Olfactory profile

Scusami is a grave floral, deeper than it first seems. The ambery, woody base settles fast and stays long: amber and creamy sandalwood envelop, patchouli and cedar dry and hold, ambrette lays down a quiet vegetal musk. It is on this footing that the bouquet can unfold without ever turning airy.

The heart is a true bouquet, dense and colored. Rose, ylang-ylang, freesia and lily of the valley form a floral mass that cassis makes greener and more alive. The house speaks of suffered flowers: there is a tension in this heart, an emotion that keeps the softness from tipping into sweetness.

The fruity tail brings all the perfume's light. Mirabelle plum gives a soft, fleshy fruit, while lemon, bergamot and grapefruit add a clear acidity, and heliotrope a powdery, almond veil. Longevity is that of an extrait, long and enveloping; the sillage, ambery and floral, leaves a consoling trace, that of a reconciled memory.
