Arbolé

Hiram Green’s dry woods fragrance, released in 2016, Arbolé draws its name and spirit from Federico García Lorca’s poem “Arbolé, arbolé.” An earthy patchouli opens the composition before it slowly merges with rich cedar and velvety sandalwood, while vanilla and tonka bean ground a soft, powdery base. A lazy summer afternoon in the hinterland of Ibiza, dry salt air moving through the trees.

History

Arbolé is a dry woods fragrance by Hiram Green, released in 2016. Its name and spirit come from Federico García Lorca’s poem “Arbolé, arbolé,” which opens on the words “tree, tree, dry and green.” Like the whole collection, it is composed from 100% natural materials and made by hand in Gouda, the Netherlands.

The perfume conjures a lazy summer afternoon in the hinterland of Ibiza : dry, salty wind moving through the trees, a trace of incense in the air, the light fading. From that scene Green draws a romantic fragrance with a vintage touch, where patchouli is not the dark, heavy material some fear but a warm, earthy heart happy to be wrapped in softness.

On skin, Arbolé opens on an earthy patchouli that slowly merges with rich cedar and velvety sandalwood. Vanilla and tonka bean then ground a soft, powdery, almost almond-like base that carries the composition into warmth. It is a calm, contemplative woody scent, true to the house : slow, patient, entirely natural, produced in small batches.

Olfactory pyramid

The house gives a palette of materials rather than a formal pyramid. The layering below follows the progression described in the press kit and on the official site, from the earthy patchouli to the powdery base.

Top
Earthy patchouli, a breath of dry incensea warm, leafy opening, salt air in the trees
Heart
Cedar, velvety sandalwooda rich, creamy woody heart
Base
Vanilla, tonka beana soft, almond-like, powdery base

The movement runs from earthy to powdery. Patchouli, sharp, warm and green, folds into creamy cedar and sandalwood, while rich, almond-like tonka bean joins vanilla for a soft, powdery landing.

Olfactory profile

The olfactory profile of Arbolé is that of a calm, romantic patchouli. Far from the heaviness sometimes ascribed to the material, it is handled here in its warm, earthy facet, softened by the creamy woods of cedar and sandalwood. The natural materials give it a living, faintly vintage texture that evolves boldly on skin.

The distinctive signature lies in this marriage of earthy patchouli with a powdery base of vanilla and tonka bean, set against a literary inspiration, the García Lorca poem. A contemplative dry woods scent, at once enveloping and restrained.
