Cuir Venenum 3

Created in 2004, Cuir Venenum 3 is the founding opus of Pierre Guillaume’s theme 3, the theme of leather. Born from the scent a stretch-leather dress left on a model’s skin, it is a disturbing harmony that reminds us that leather, before being a material, was also a living skin.

History

Cuir Venenum opened Pierre Guillaume’s theme 3 in 2004, the theme of leather. Its birth lies in a precise scene: while attending a collection presentation by couturier Jean-Claude Jitrois, the perfumer was seduced by the smell a stretch-leather dress had left on the skin of the model wearing it. From that imprint came a leather that is less material than sensation, a leather that remembers having been alive.

The perfumer’s choice is to eroticize the leather rather than harden it. Where many niche leathers seek the brutality of tannin and birch, Cuir Venenum approaches it through skin, melting it into a carnal orange blossom absolute and a sensual honey. Leather is no longer a wall but a second skin, warm and disquieting.

The floral opening of orange blossom and honey wraps the leather at once in an ambiguous softness; the heart lets the material assert itself, held by resinous myrrh; the base of styrax and musk lays down the animalic finish that draws the fragrance close to the intimate scent of skin. The composition moves like a caress, sensual yet never vulgar.

The name states the intent: “Venenum”, venom, evokes the smell of leather that penetrates the skin and fuses with it until it intoxicates. In 2012 Pierre Guillaume returned to theme 3 with Arabian Horse, variation 3.1, which shifts the leather toward the equestrian and the animal, proof that Cuir Venenum remains the origin from which the house thinks its leather.

Olfactory profile

Cuir Venenum is a sensual leather rather than a raw one. The perfumer erases its harshness with an orange blossom absolute and a honey that wrap it in carnal softness, so that leather reads like scented skin. It is a contact leather, warm and disquieting, far from dry, smoky leathers.

Its signature lies in this eroticized reading of the material: floral and honey soften, myrrh and styrax warm, musk animates. The whole stays close to the body, sensual without being heavy, which makes it a unisex leather easy to wear in the evening as much as day to day. The trail is present but intimate, right against the skin.
