History

In MEMENTO, Filippo Sorcinelli restores through smell the drawers of sacristies he has known as an organist. Dòmm is the Milanese one; the title takes up the name Milanese people give their cathedral in dialect, the Duomo.

The sacristy evoked has a name: it is called aquilonare, from the late Latin aquilonaris, meaning northern. It is the ancient sacristy of Milan Cathedral, the first nucleus of the building, raised from 1386 in the heart of an urban center cluttered with buildings. It was the first place built after the laying of the foundation stone. Beyond its precious marbles, sculptures and frescoes, it is full of furniture and drawers, and is still used today by priests for their vesting before sacred rites.

The perfume draws from it a dark, woody material, the earthiest of the collection. Sorcinelli states it as a harmonic evolution: the subject sets a deep patchouli, backed by resinous styrax and musks. The counter-subject lights that base with jasmine and a cocoa note, that dry cocoa of patined woods. The tail closes on bergamot, Virginia cedar and black pepper, like the grain of an old cabinet.

The house releases it as an extrait de parfum, unisex, in the line of the MEMENTO collection presented in 2024. It is a woody of character, less incensed than its collection neighbours and turned more toward the waxed wood of the drawers.

Harmonic evolution

Filippo Sorcinelli is an organist; he does not conceive his perfumes as a pyramid of volatility but as a score. Dòmm is therefore stated in three movements, subject, counter-subject and tail, exactly as the house publishes them.

Subject
Patchoulidark wood
Styraxleathery resin
Musksenveloping base
Counter-subject
Jasminewarm floral
Cocoa notedry chocolate
Tail
Bergamotbright citrus
Virginia cedardry wood
Black pepperdry bite

The through-line is wood: patchouli and styrax hold the base, jasmine and cocoa light it without really softening it, and the peppered cedar closes the whole on the grain of an old cabinet.

Olfactory profile

Dòmm opens on a frank patchouli, dark and earthy, which styrax dresses in a leathery resin. You are at once inside the wood of the drawers, dense and patined; musks lay a base of the base there, warm and lasting, anchoring the perfume to the skin.

The heart brings contrast: a warm jasmine lightens the woody mass, and above all a cocoa note, dry and bitter rather than gourmand, evoking the grain of dark chocolate as much as varnished wood. This is the layer that gives the perfume its slightly gourmand character without ever turning to dessert.

The tail tightens: bergamot admits a little light, Virginia cedar dries the wood and black pepper sharpens its edge. Longevity is that of an extrait, long and close to the skin; the sillage stays dense and discreet, at the scale of a closed room.

“The aquilonare sacristy, the first place built after the laying of the foundation stone of the cathedral.”Filippo Sorcinelli, official note for Dòmm
