Quick answers
History
Tobacco Oud arrived in 2013 in the Private Blend Oud Collection from Tom Ford. The collection repackaged Oud Wood, first released in 2007, and added two new scents: Oud Fleur and Tobacco Oud.
The starting point was dokha, described at launch as “a blend of herbs, flowers and spice-laden tobacco that was smoked in secret five centuries ago during a ban on smoking”. Dokha is still widely smoked today.
Travel retail trade press reported a launch in Tom Ford Beauty airport doors, from London Heathrow (United Kingdom) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates). All three scents came in warm grey versions of the Private Blend flacon.
Tom Ford names no perfumer on its pages. Now Smell This and The Candy Perfume Boy both credit Olivier Gillotin, who had already composed Tobacco Vanille for the house in 2007.
On 4 November 2026, Osmetheca could not find a live Tobacco Oud product page on the Tom Ford Beauty site. The scent’s former tomford.com address now redirects to Tobacco Vanille, which is not proof of a discontinuation.
Fragrance notes
Tom Ford publishes no accessible note pyramid for Tobacco Oud. The list below is the one Now Smell This printed in December 2013, with no split into top, heart and base.
The Moodie Davitt Report’s launch story also lists a “dokha” tobacco accord, coumarin, amber and Atlas cedarwood ORPUR.
Scent profile
Tobacco leads and the oud stays in the background. Angela at Now Smell This found an opening of dry leather and raw tobacco leaf, closer to a stubbed-out cigarette than to fruity pipe tobacco.
A touch of amber and vanilla then rounds it off, and a jasmine-like note threads through the woods. After an hour or two, the scent turns more ambery, over a base of wood and leather.
Osmetheca files it as an amber woody. Tobacco and oud sit on cistus, cedar, patchouli and sandalwood rather than on the vanilla of Tobacco Vanille.
“If Tobacco Oud isn’t my dream tobacco fragrance, it’s pretty close.”Angela, Now Smell This, 23 December 2013
Key characteristics
When and where to wear
A dense eau de parfum pulled toward woods and resins, it suits cold weather and evenings best. Now Smell This called it thick but close to the skin. Osmetheca does not publish a longevity figure.
Similar perfumes
Four perfumes help place Tobacco Oud, through the house’s own tobacco, oud or a softer tobacco.
