Tu es Petrus is a fragrance of place. It is reserved for container_zerozero, Filippo Sorcinelli's first mono-brand store, opened in 2022 in the heart of Rome, on Borgo Vittorio, a few steps from Vatican City. The name, “You are Peter,” takes up Christ's words to the apostle Peter in the Gospel of Matthew, the words on which the neighboring St Peter's Basilica is founded.
The fragrance is an exercise in memory. The house presents it as a tribute to a scent much in vogue in Vatican circles in the late 1990s. Filippo Sorcinelli, who moved through these places first as a student and then as an organist, seeks to revive the atmosphere of those years: the embraces, the fraternal greetings and the formalities inside St Peter's Basilica.
The writing is softer and more solar than that of the liturgical UNUM. The subject sets up a warm, gourmand base of vanilla, tonka bean, patchouli and musk; the counter-subject brings jasmine, cedar and a fresh fruity note; the tail, all citrus, bergamot, orange and mandarin, lights the whole with a Roman sun. It is a welcoming, almost affectionate oriental.
Tu es Petrus is offered as an extrait de parfum, unisex, and is available only in Rome. One documentary caution: the official document carries a slip, opening by mentioning “Ambrosivs” and titling “Tu es Pertrus”; the correct name, confirmed by the official page, is indeed Tu es Petrus. The heart softens further. Jasmine brings a solar floral, cedar a woody dryness, and a fresh fruity note adds a watery transparency. This layer gives the fragrance its affable quality, that of a happy memory rather than a rite.
