Quick answers
History
Evernia is composed by Ormonde Jayne, the independent British house founded in 2001 in London (United Kingdom) by Linda Pilkington, whose perfumes are handmade in England.
Evernia is a modern take on a classic, in keeping with its gender-free philosophy. The overall impression is of soft interlacing flowers, lily of the valley, freesia, orris and violet, fanned with the unmistakable aroma and tenacity of oakmoss. Moroccan rose adds sweetness and cardamom an intense wave of spice. Cashmeran, sandalwood and musk give Evernia its underlying softness and sensuality.
Cassis absolute, Sicilian bergamot, cardamom, pink pepper and coriander seed open the structure. The heart layers orris butter, lily of the valley, freesia, jasmine, violet and Moroccan rose absolute, while oakmoss, cashmeran, sandalwood, musk, opoponax and Iso E Super close it. Evernia is an Eau de Parfum at maximum strength in the 88 ml format.
Fragrance notes
The olfactory architecture of Evernia runs in three tiers: Head, Heart and Soul. The summary notes are Oakmoss, cassis absolute and cashmeran.
Scent profile
The signature of Evernia is the oakmoss. Used extensively in 1970s perfumery and then restricted under IFRA, oakmoss returns here as the spine of a modern chypre, fanned across a soft floral heart. Its profile reads tenacious, alluring and aromatic.
The opening is fruity and spiced, with cassis and bergamot lifted by cardamom and pink pepper. The heart is a soft floral weave of orris, lily of the valley, freesia, jasmine, violet and Moroccan rose. The drydown is where oakmoss, cashmeran, sandalwood, musk and opoponax give the composition its tenacity and sensual warmth.
Key characteristics
When and where to wear
Evernia, with its mossy woody amberesque character, reads best in autumn and winter and in cool weather, where the oakmoss and woods carry at their most tenacious. The floral heart keeps it from feeling severe.
It suits evening wear and confident daytime occasions alike, and its gender-free composition makes it broadly wearable. Its tenacity rewards a moderate hand: one or two sprays last well.

In Linda's words
A personal note from founder Linda Pilkington on Evernia.
Used extensively in 1970s perfumes and then removed because of IFRA concerns, oakmoss has recently made a comeback in the industry and I was lucky to receive a sample. The moment I opened the small cannister, it was love at first deep inhalation but screaming out to be modernized. The perfume has been praised for all the right attributes. Good things come to all those who wait.Linda Pilkington, Ormonde Jayne
