History

L’Eau de Circé opened Pierre Guillaume’s theme 5 in 2005, the theme of osmanthus, one of the house’s very first compositions. The Asian flower, with its natural scent of apricot and leather, is treated here as a rich, enchanting oriental floral, in the manner of a love potion.

The inspiration comes from the Odyssey: Circe, the sorceress who, on her island, bewitches Odysseus’ companions. The perfume aims to be in her image, composed of aromas that cast a spell on all our senses. Osmanthus absolute is its heart, surrounded by orange blossom, rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang and orchid, an opulent, carnal floral bouquet.

White peach and tangerine bring their fruity roundness, extending the natural apricot of osmanthus, while a base of woody notes, amber, patchouli and honey wraps the flower in a soft, caressing warmth. Plum adds a silky, almost liqueur-like facet to the base.

Please note: L’Eau de Circé no longer appears in the house’s 2026 catalogue, but it remains referenced by Pierre Guillaume Paris (official media page) and distributed by specialist retailers. It therefore stays available and fully documented. In 2017 the house extended theme 5 with Suède Osmanthe 5.1, a leathered variation that takes up osmanthus conceptually, twelve years after this founding opus.

Olfactory profile

L’Eau de Circé is an opulent osmanthus rather than a diaphanous one. Pierre Guillaume unfolds the flower in all its richness, surrounded by a carnal floral bouquet and an amber, honeyed base. It is an enveloping oriental floral, warm and enchanting, where osmanthus sets the apricot-leather tone while amber and honey lay down the softness.

Its signature lies in this potion-like reading, generous and sensual. The trail is present, fruity and soft, which makes it an enveloping skin scent, unisex but readily autumnal and wintry. Against the leathered concept of Suède Osmanthe, L’Eau de Circé remains the full, opulent version of osmanthus in the house’s hands.
