History and inspiration

Nawab of Oudh Intensivo is composed for Ormonde Jayne, the independent British house founded in 2001 in London (United Kingdom) by Linda Pilkington, whose perfumes are handmade in England. It belongs to the Four Corners of the Earth collection, and Intensivo is the maximum strength edition of the perfume.

Oudh is a historical province of central India, also known as Awadh, and the Nawab, its ruler, gives the perfume its name. The composition is inspired by the Nawabs who once ruled there. It is a potent blend of amber and rose with a soft edge of oudh, the precious agarwood material, and its most distinctive trait is balance. Surprisingly, not one ingredient stands out from the others. The perfume achieves a synergy that defies traditional analysis, releasing a pulsating, brooding character described by the house as hauntingly beautiful.

The structure opens green, bright and aldehydic, with bergamot, orange absolute and cardamom. The heart is built around rose, lifted and spiced by magnolia, orchid, pimento, bay, cinnamon and hedione, which gives Nawab its intricate, slightly carnation-like warmth. The drydown brings ambergris, musk, vetiver and labdanum around a soft oudh, animalic and resinous without ever turning harsh. At Intensivo strength this base gains weight and persistence.

Olfactive profile

The signature of Nawab of Oudh Intensivo is its rose-and-oudh amber, held in unusually even balance. Where many oud perfumes push the agarwood forward, here the oudh sits as a soft edge under amber, rose and spice, so the overall impression is rich and rounded rather than medicinal or smoky. The spice accord of pimento, bay and cinnamon gives it an intricate, almost edible warmth.

On skin it reads spicy, intricate and complex, exactly as its Perfume Profile suggests. The Intensivo concentration deepens the amber and oudh base and extends the wear, leaving a warm, slightly animalic trail. It is a perfume of depth and gravity rather than brightness.

When and where to wear

Nawab of Oudh Intensivo suits autumn and winter and the evening, when its amber, rose and oudh warmth feels most at home. It is well suited to occasions and to colder weather, where its spiced depth carries beautifully.

At Intensivo strength a single spray goes a long way. The perfume is rich and tenacious, so a restrained application lets its balance show without becoming heavy.

In Linda's words
