Quick answers
History
Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Oud appeared in 2012: Francis Kurkdjian approached oud wood as an olfactory giant he says he learned to tame in order to invite it into his palette. He describes it as the prince of Arabian perfumes, born between the sand of the dunes and the starlit night.
In 2018, the house released the extrait de parfum version, more intense and more concentrated. The structure stays faithful: saffron and elemi open, cedar and patchouli form the heart, Laotian oud wood holds the base.
The extrait thickens the sillage and extends the longevity without betraying the original inspiration: a woody, spicy oud, opulent yet legible, both masculine and feminine, presented in the Thousand and One Nights bottle crowned with a golden dome.
Olfactory pyramid
The house publishes the structure of Oud, which the extrait intensifies. Here are its notes, from saffron to oud wood.
From leathery saffron to oud wood, the extrait holds a dense woody line, more concentrated than the eau de parfum.
Olfactory profile
Oud Extrait opens on leathery saffron and resinous elemi gum: from the start, the accord is spicy and dry, without the medicinal edge oud can sometimes take.
The woody heart brings in cedar and patchouli: this is where the Laotian oud unfolds, woody and deep rather than animalic. The extrait concentration thickens this heart, which gains in opulence.
The base extends the oud over a discreet amber accord. Longevity is very long, the sillage marked but controlled: an evening oud for the cold season, opulent without being crushing, for moments when you want a wood that lasts.
