History

Amouage has always commissioned outside perfumers, from Guy Robert for Gold in 1983 through the many signatures of the Christopher Chong years and then of Renaud Salmon since 2020. The house does not credit them consistently, though. On its eaux de parfum the perfumer is frequently named; on its attars, nobody is. For Tonka Misfah the official page confirms the fragrance exists and comes in 12 ml, and stops there. Specialist press attributes the composition to Suzy Le Helley, a perfumer with no entry on Osmetheca.

The name holds two geographies at once. Misfah is a town in Oman, following the naming rule of the attar series, which ties every fragrance to a place in the country. Tonka bean comes from South America and is not part of the traditional Arabian palette the house claims as its own: frankincense, oud, Taif rose, myrrh. So the most heritage bound format in the catalog is here carrying a material that is not.

The calendar stays vague and is best reported as such. Amouage does not date launches on its site, which shows only a new product badge. The one available date is the specialist press announcement of 27 June 2026, published jointly with Suede Ibri. Both attars are therefore announced in late June 2026, with two different perfumers, one pulling toward leather and the other toward coumarin.

Olfactory pyramid

The house publishes no pyramid for its attars. The four materials below are the ones specialist press reports, with no top, heart or base ranking.

Materials reported by the press
Saffronleathery, spiced
Vanillasweet balsam
Tonka beanalmond, cut hay
Patchouliearthy, camphorous

Two sweet materials and two that argue with them: the quartet is a familiar balancing scheme, and everything depends on how much saffron is in it.

Olfactory profile

Tonka bean and vanilla say the same thing two ways. The first brings coumarin, meaning bitter almond, cut hay and a dry sweetness; the second brings balsam and sugar. Together they make a broad gourmand floor, the one Western perfumery has placed at the center of its output for the past twenty years.

Saffron is what keeps that floor from being ordinary. Spiced, slightly leathery, sharp edged, it cuts the coumarin and recalls the Gulf register where it has a long history. Patchouli works underneath with earth and camphor and keeps the vanilla from spreading. With this kind of formula the question is always the same: does the saffron assert itself enough to give the composition a character, or does it stay a condiment? The house gives no indication of proportions.

The format changes how all of that reads. In an alcohol free oil these four materials do not unfold in pyramid order; they arrive together and warm up slowly on skin. A tonka and vanilla accord that would fill a room as an eau de parfum is confined here to a few centimeters. It is a radically different way to wear a gourmand.

Common questions

Who composed Tonka Misfah?01
Amouage credits no perfumer on its official page. Specialist press attributes the composition to Suzy Le Helley, who does not yet have an entry on Osmetheca.
When was Tonka Misfah released?02
Late June 2026. Amouage does not date its launches and its official page shows only a new product badge; the press announcement is dated 27 June 2026 and covers Suede Ibri at the same time.
What does tonka bean contribute to a fragrance?03
Coumarin, the molecule that reads as bitter almond, cut hay and dry sweetness. It is one of the historical foundations of gourmand and fougere writing. See our tonka bean entry.
What does Misfah refer to?04
A town in Oman. Each attar in this series pairs a material or an accord with an Omani place name, which the collection's naming makes plain.
How does an attar differ from an eau de parfum?05
It contains no alcohol. The material is applied to the skin rather than sprayed, develops no volatile top notes and produces almost no trail.
Is the full formula known?06
No. Only four materials are reported by specialist press: saffron, vanilla, tonka bean and patchouli. Amouage publishes neither a pyramid nor a material list for its attars.
