History of the house

The Maria Candida Gentile house was founded in 2009 in Sarzana, in Liguria (Italy), by the Italian perfumer of the same name. Maria Candida Gentile launched three opening compositions the same year, all signed by her: Sideris, Cinabre and Exultat. The writing was set from the start: a high naturals content, a Mediterranean anchor and openly stated literary and musical references.

Before signing her own brand, Maria Candida Gentile trained in composition at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery (GIP) (France) between 2000 and 2003, where she is documented as the first Italian woman to have studied. She was later granted the title of Maitre Parfumeur. For several years she composed bespoke perfumes for private clients and for several Italian hotels, before structuring her own signed collection.

The atelier is based on the Monte d'Armolo heights, in Sarzana (Liguria, Italy). The property includes a former church dedicated to the Virgin, converted into a showroom and a display space for the collection. The perfumer composes, samples, welcomes visitors by appointment and keeps the olfactory archives of the house there. The house claims a prevailing use of natural materials in its compositions, with a share of essential oils and absolutes reported between 80 and 98 percent depending on the formula. The first line was launched in 2009 through a distributor, before Maria Candida Gentile chose independence in order to preserve the identity of the house, the quality of the materials and the integrity of her work.
