A nose, or creative perfumer, chooses the materials and writes the formula of a fragrance. Many work for a fragrance supplier, some for a single house, others as independents or at the head of their own brand.

The twenty-seven perfumers in this guide have signed landmark fragrances since the 1990s, in niche as well as in luxury. They are grouped into four profiles, each entry giving their affiliation, landmark creations and awards.
